The building of the Euskalduna Jauregia Bilbao, designed by the architects Federico Soriano and Dolores Palacios to resemble a ship under construction, stands on the site formerly occupied by the Euskalduna shipyard and it won the Enric Miralles award for architecture at the 6th Spanish Architecture Biennial in 2001.

This amazing and modern building hosts a wide range of economic, business, academic, political, institutional, social and cultural events. It is the home of the city’s opera season, organised by ABAO (Friends of the Opera of Bilbao), one of the most highly renowned in Spain and indeed Europe, and it's also the home base of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra (BOS), which was founded in 1920 and has been performing since 1922. And of course, the Euskalduna Conference Centre won the Apex Award for the “World’s Best Congress Centre in 2003”, an award presented by the AIPC (International Association of Convention Centres), which covers 57 countries all over the world. In deciding to grant the award, a team of experts led by Professor Jaworsky of the University of Heilbronn assessed nine different areas: the building, the technical equipment, exhibition area, congress management, catering, final assessment of congresses, the destination, the location of the centre and the local hotels.

WORLD'S BEST CONGRESS CENTRE IN 2003

The Euskalduna Conference Centre is in the very heart of the city, just a few minutes from Bilbao’s international airport and with excellent connections via road, rail and sea.

It is within walking distance of most of the city’s hotels, and stands close to solve Bilbao’s major museums (the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Fine Arts Museum and the Ria de Bilbao Maritime Museum). The city also offers an attractive range of shopping, eating and leisure amenities.

The complex has a car park for 475 vehicles and is adjacent to a taxi rank and a tram stop of the city’s modern tramway system.

The Euskalduna Conference Centre features highly versatile facilities that can be adapted to meet all needs and provides multiple solutions and setups that enable events to be customised.

The available facilities range from office rooms for fewer than 10 people to an auditorium seating 2,164. In all there are 26 rooms with different sizes and characteristics, hosting state-of-the-art equipment for the staging of congresses and events in general, with the capacity to set up complex entertainment events in the larger rooms.

Supplementing these rooms is a 4,200 m² multipurpose exhibition hall, which can be divided and which boasts easy goods access for erection work. The size and open plan design of this hall enable it also to be used for banquets seating more than 2,000 diners on the same level.
